Weight a minute ...

We use coffee scales every time we make coffee at home, its the best way to make sure you are getting the most out of the coffee you are using!

Why we love it

Some things do not need to be complicated. We use these scales every day and they have never missed a beat! They are really easy to use and are also wipe clean. We also love the fact they are rechargeable via USB C.

How should I start with scales?

Its one of life's frustrations when you go to take that first sip of coffee in the morning and it just does not taste as good as it could. This can be for a few reasons but one of the easiest to fix is the ratio of coffee to water. For us we find a great place to start is 1:16, this would mean for every 1g of coffee, 16g of water. This should give you a good balance between strength and flavour, roughly speaking, it looks like this:

15g of coffee to 250g of water
30g of coffee to 500g of water
60g of coffee to 1kg of water

If these are too strong or too weak then recipes and ratios can be altered and adjusted to your taste from there. But for us, this is part of the fun of coffee, getting it exactly how we like it to get the absolute most out of what we are drinking.

Probably worth noting that the 1:16 is not a steadfast rule, and can change dramatically depending on your brew method. Espresso for example needs a lot more dialling in and ratios can be very different!
